This is the second book in the Chestnut Springs series by Elsie Silver. Each book focuses on a different couple living in the small town of Chestnut Springs. The books are in chronological order, so you will see snippets of the previous couples in each new book. For example, book one (Flawless) is about Rhett Eaton, book two (Heartless) is about his older brother, Cade Eaton; so their stories overlap. I like this aspect of Elsie Silver's writing, as you never need to say a true goodbye to the characters.

My favourite quote: "Willa might be a bit of a psycho - after all, she did just push a child into the pool - but the more time I spend with her, the more I feel like she's my psycho". - Out of context, this sounds rather odd, but it is a pivotal moment in the story, and a heartfelt one too!

Characters: This story shows the development of the relationship of Cade Eaton and his son's nanny, Willa. Cade is one of the grumpiest, work- and family-orientated men I have ever read about! Willa is a carefree, sassy, city-girl who scores a job as Lucas's nanny through Summer (from book one). We learnt a bit about Willa in book one, but you get to know (and love) her so much more in this book. Honestly, the main characters in this book had me obsessed!! Their dynamic and chemistry was so much more intense that Rhett and Summer's - it was a wonderful reading experience. And if you loved the family dynamic in the last book, wait until you read this one!

Plot: The story here was fantastic - there was no unnecessary drama, no flat plotlines, everything that happened had an outcome or a development area in the story.

Emotions: I adore Lucas, love the entire Eaton family, and actually cared for the development of Cade and Willa's relationship. The story did not make me cry, but it did make my heart swell in parts, and I was happy, irritated, nervous, etc, along with the characters - which, for me, shows good writing!

World-building: The world was pretty set in the first book, but we get to see a few new places in Chestnut Springs in Heartless, including a coffee shop, and other homes. I still love Chestnut Springs.

Ending: The ending was really good, a real happy ever after and the start of Cade, Willa, and Lucas's lives as a family. I'm excited to see little snippets in the next books of the series.

Spice: Open door scenes, lots of teasing and foreplay, detailed scenes. Nothing too repetitive. There was actually some chemistry in these scenes, which I find writing often lacks.

Overall, Heartless by Elsie Silver was a sparkling five stars for me, with four spicy peppers.

Please keep in mind that the above notes are my opinion and your experience with Heartless may differ to mine. That being said, I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did.
